G7 Ise-Shima Summit - Kashikojima, Mie
Thursday 26th~Friday 27th May
We proudly announce that the G7 Ise-Shima Summit will be held from May 26 to 27 this year. Hosting the world's top international conference is a rare opportunity not only to upgrade Mie's status as a tourist destination, but also to improve the comprehensive strengths of the region. Under the leadership of the Ise-Shima Summit Mie Prefectural Assembly established in June last year, Mie Prefecture is making prefecture-wide efforts for the Summit. To achieve a successful summit, it is vital that the conference be held in a safe and secure manner and that safety be ensured for both visitors to Mie and the prefecture's residents. While strengthening the cooperation with the national government, we, the Ise-Shima Summit Mie Prefectural Assembly, established the Mie Partnership Counterterrorism Promotion Council under the leadership of the Mie Prefectural Police Headquarters to enhance security measures. In addition, working together with the police, the Japan Coast Guard, and four local municipalities, we work to alleviate the anxiety of local residents, for example, possible influences on their daily lives caused by the Summit, by providing detailed information and having an exchange of opinions through meetings. It is also important to enable the benefits of the Summit to spread throughout Mie Prefecture. This April, Kuwana City will be the main host of the "2016 Junior Summit in Mie. Tours for international press are being conducted all over Mie. Furthermore, in order for all citizens of Mie to provide hospitality for guests visiting Mie for the Ise-Shima Summit, we are implementing "omotenashi (hospitality) operations," such as street cleaning and planting flowers. Furthermore, rather than making the Summit a transient event, it is essential for us to pass on the assets of the Summit to the next generation. We are strengthening our domestic and international communications in order to raise the name recognition of our region. In October last year, we promoted the allure of Mie and Ise-Shima to diplomatic corps in Japan at a seminar and reception held at the Iikura Guest House of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. To ensure a successful summit, all citizens of Mie, including businesses, organizations, individuals, and municipalities, will continue to work together as a united Mie under the leadership of the Ise-Shima Summit Mie Prefectural Assembly to accelerate preparations for the Summit.
